PMAY (Urban)

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) for ensuring housing for all in urban areas was launched on 25th June 2015 providing pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries. The Mission provides Central Assistance to implementing agencies through States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) for providing houses to all eligible families/ beneficiaries against the validated demand for houses for about 1.12 cr. PMAY(U) has made a mandatory provision for the female head of the family to be the owner or co-owner of the house under this Mission. A basket of options is adopted to ensure more number of people depending on their income, finance and availability of land through following four options: (1) In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) (2) Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) (3) Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) (4) Beneficiary-led individual house construction/enhancements (BLC).

State assistance of Rs.1 Lakh is provided by Government of Maharashtra and Central Assistance of Rs.1.5 Lakh per EWS house is provided by Government of India in projects where at least 35% of the houses in the projects are for EWS category and a single project has at least 250 houses.

Families belonging to EWS/LIG/MIG segments, living in urban areas, having no pucca house either in his / her name or in the name of any member of his / her family anywhere in the country are eligible to purchase/construct or rent a house under PMAY-U 2.0.

1. A beneficiary is defined as a family comprising of husband, wife and unmarried children. Such beneficiary should not own a pucca house either in his / her name or in the name of any member of his / her family in any part of India to receive Central Assistance under the Mission. 2. Adult earning member irrespective of marital status are also eligible

No. Under the Mission, a beneficiary can avail of benefit of one component only.

Area enclosed within the walls, actual area to lay the carpet. This area does not include the thickness of the inner walls.

The Scheme will support construction of houses upto 30 sqm carpet area along with basic infrastructure.

Applicants who have availed benefits from any housing scheme of Central Govt., State Govt., or Local Govt. in the last 20 years will not be eligible for PMAY-U.

A 'Pucca' house is defined as an all-weather dwelling unit having roof and wall are made up of sturdy, modern, and durable materials like burnt bricks, stones packed with cement or lime, cement concrete, timber, Galvanized Iron (GI) sheets, asbestos sheets, machine-made tiles etc. regardless of whether the floor is Kutcha.

A pucca house under PMAY-U 2.0 will mandatorily have basic facilities such as kitchen, toilet, electricity and water connection.

The beneficiaries meeting the eligibility criteria defined under the scheme, may submit the application in defined format through PMAY-MIS portal, Common Service Centres (CSC) or by visiting the concerned Urban Local Bodies/Municipalities they are residing in.

The scheme guidelines mandate ownership of the house to be in the name of female head of the household or in joint ownership with the male member.
